While the city of San Antonio is still the number one tourist attraction in the state of Texas, it stands at the threshold of a major economic boom in the form of manufacturing jobs.
Toyota, the Japanese carmaker, is set to open its sixth plant in North America just south of San Antonio in the year 2005. The plant will manufacture Tundra pickup trucks and employ
about 2000 workers with an annual payroll of about $100M. Satellite
companies are expected to bring in another 3000 jobs.
These and other manufacturing jobs along with job growth in the aerospace, biosciences, healthcare, information technology and telecommunications industries are all in San Antonio’s present and growing future.
The Professional Golfers Association will be opening a PGA village in the city’s
northeast area offering more jobs and national exposure for the city which is expected to be an additional catalyst to the tourist industry’s continued growth.
From its humble beginnings as a Native American village to becoming the eighth largest city in the United States, San Antonio has faced and overcome many obstacles. With all the present activity combined with its excellent history San Antonio has a very bright future indeed.
